PIPA's Review

Lemonade is a well rated modern pet insurer known for:

  • A highly rated, fast, app-first claims experience
  • Customizability: choose from 4 deductibles, 3 reimbursement rates, and 5 annual limits up to $100,000
  • Optional add-ons let you tailor coverage — wellness/preventative packages, vet visit fees, dental illness, physical therapy, behavioral, and end-of-life care
  • Discounts for insuring multiple pets, bundling with other Lemonade policies, and paying annually
  • Curable pre-existing conditions can become eligible for coverage after a symptom-free period — a real differentiator

Considerations:

  • No accident-only option available
  • No pay-the-vet-directly option
  • Minimum enrollment age is 8 weeks; maximum enrollment age is breed-specific (generally 10–14 years)
  • Vet exam fees, dental illness, behavioral coverage, and routine care all require paid add-ons — the base plan is leaner than some competitors
  • Not available in every state, and waiting periods and some options vary by location. Support is heavily app/AI-based, so reaching a person can take longer.
